KCBXnet Mentors Program
Your resource for solving your online problems
When you have a question or problem with respect to using KCBXnet, the first
place to look is at the on-line KCBXnet User Services. There you will find most of
the frequent questions already answered and detailed instructions for performing
the basic tasks most users need. Another resource that KCBXnet makes
available to its users is the series of Training Workshops that are held on
introductory topics.
If after going through the KCBXnet User Guide, you have not found the
information you require, there are several other ways to seek assistance from
other KCBXnet users and volunteers.
The KCBXnet User Group (SNUG) meets once a month. There you can talk
with other users and will find people willing to lend a hand. The SNUG also has
a mailing list for communications between meetings.
If you find that you require assistance beyond the above resources, you can turn
to KCBXnet Mentors for additional help. The mentors are KCBXnet
volunteers who are willing to share their experience with newer users. They
don't get paid, they don't get special privileges for doing this. They are just
trying to be good neighbors.
The Mentors Coordinator currently is Ray Miklas who can be contacted at
.
All requests for mentor
assistance are directed to the Mentor Coordinator who then tries to match the
request for assistance with one of the Mentor Volunteers. This involves the area
of expertise of the Mentor Volunteer, the computer hardware, operating system
platform and software in question, and the manner (email, telephone or home
visit) of delivery of the assistance.
Requests for KCBXnet Mentors assistance may be directed to the following:
- Mentor Coordinator:
- SLONET Customer Service:
- Voice mail: 545-5002
The Mentors cannot respond to questions about KCBXnet systems problems
or matters regarding your account status or payment. For those concerns, the
proper contacts are as follows:
- KCBXnet systems problems:
- Account status or payment:
Keep in mind that KCBXnet or any other ISP (Internet Service Provider) is providing its
subscribers a service, just like Pacific Bell or Sonic Cable Television. Each subscriber
is entitled to receive reliable service. KCBXnet provides that. The KCBXnet subscriber's
responsibility is to use private equipment, properly configured, to access that service.
As a courtesy, KCBXnet provides free on-line information and software and, by the use of
the KCBXnet Mentors Program, free assistance to its subscribers in realizing the successful
access to that service.
