Become a Volunteer!
As a non-profit organization with just a handful of staff,
KCBXnet relies on volunteers to help us fulfill our mission as
a Community Technology Resource Center. If you're interested in
- learning more about technology, or
- teaching others about technology, or
- helping out in other, non-technical ways
then KCBXnet needs you! Pick a volunteer position from
the list below and find out how to apply today!
Receptionist/Administrative Assistant - Assist staff
in the day-to-day operations of KCBXnet. Field questions on the
phone or in person; check in/out people using our public computers;
help staff with administrative tasks such as entering data or stuffing
envelopes; and be an all-around good-will ambassador for KCBXnet!
Trainer - Design your own course to teach in our
Training Center, or select one of our on-going courses to teach.
We focus on beginning computer users with a few courses designed
for more experienced users. Courses range from how to use a web
browser to creating a database in MS Access.
Training Assistant - Help our class instructors
teach free computer and Internet classes to the community. During
the hands-on lab time, assistants show individual students, as needed,
basic computing tasks.
TechCorps/TechPartners
- Join this group of "techie consultants" that assists
other nonprofits with technical issues. Must be computer literate,
or very motivated to learn. KCBXnet dispatches members offsite
to visit agencies on a regular basis and help them troubleshoot
computer problems, install software, network systems, etc. Learn
advanced hardware and software skills during bi-monthly meetings
and from your own TechCorps mentor.
GrantSeekers - Research funders, develop strategies,
and write grant proposals for KCBXnet's ongoing needs and special
programs. Members work on their own, but the group meets once a
month to check in and share ideas.
Web Developer/Master - Create and/or maintain KCBXnet
web pages on an as-needed basis. Code forms and CGI scripts, design
graphics; make text changes/additions as requested, and more.
Writers - Write copy for KCBXnet's web site, newsletter,
brochures, flyers, etc. on a project-by-project basis.
